Forming Missionary Disciples
Proclaim Columbus is rooted in the Six Elements of Missionary Disciple Formation as outlined in the Parish Toolkit:
1. Kerygmatic Encounter
2. Ongoing Spiritual Formation in Prayer and Sacraments
3. Missional Training
4. Discipleship Community in Small Groups
5. Ongoing Catechesis
6. Ongoing Scripture Study
The Rescue Project is one of the evangelization tools used for Kerygmatic Encounter, the first element of missionary disciple formation. An encounter with Jesus, being overwhelmed by the message of the gospel, and responding to that encounter are critical initial steps in missionary disciple formation. It’s not enough to simply know “about” God, a missionary disciple must experience and know God’s love and thus to surrender to His plans for their lives. After encountering Christ, the missionary disciple is ready to move through the remaining five steps and grow in their faith. They will be moved to continue to grow in their relationship with Christ and invite others into their own relationship with Christ.
Where Do We Start?
For Parishes:
Pray to better understand God’s unique plan for your parish
Set up a parish meeting so that we can assess your parish community's specific needs and discuss missionary disciple formation opportunities
Begin a strategic plan to form missionary disciples in your parish during your meeting and get connected with models and resources for missionary disciple formation
Send parish staff and volunteers to the Annual Diocesan Evangelization Leadership Summit - a one day event each year to equip and form missionary disciples
For Individuals:
Pray to better understand God's unique plan for your life
Pray about who God has put in your life and who might need to hear the message of the Gospel (hint: probably everyone)
Join Proclaim Columbus to stay up to date with events and resources and connect with others missionary disciples
Visit The Rescue Project, rescueproject.us for access to equipping and training materials and begin running a Rescue Project small group
Attend the Diocesan Evangelization Leadership Summit to be equipped in your missionary discipleship journey
